For the past few years, our holiday blend has been called “Juntos”, which is Spanish for "together." For us, being with your family (whether they’re your biological family or your chosen family) is a key part of the holidays, and it means much more to us than Black Friday, presents, and material things.
But let’s be real: 2020 has changed the landscape of this holiday season. It’s been difficult for all of us. We are still together, but this year we can’t really be physically together. There’s much to be worried about, but we think it’s also a good time to try and focus on the minor miracles.
A minor miracle can be just about anything. Some days, it’s just managing to get out of bed, or catching the bus right as it pulls up. Maybe it's finally nailing that bread recipe, seeing an old friend, talking to that boss or teacher you admire, or connecting with the person you used to run into at the cafe. Minor miracles will be personal to you.
It’s hard to be thankful in difficult situations, and 2020 has really tried our patience. Seeing our cafes as takeout only is difficult; the comforting buzz of a busy coffee shop was something that was easy to take for granted. Nothing has been certain during the pandemic, but Durham’s and our wider community's unending support of our team feels like a miracle to us, and it's one that we’re grateful for every day. We hope that our holiday blend helps evoke feelings of gratitude, kindness, and love, and a willingness to extend those gifts to the people in your life, even if you can’t be face to face.
Happy holidays, y’all. Little Waves Coffee & Cocoa Cinnamon are so thankful for all of you.
