We're excited to feature another coffee from the Peixoto family. This coffee was produced by Sebastião Peixoto, who worked alongside his six brothers to purchase land in 1999. The farm is called Sitio Santo Antônio, located in the city of Santo Antônio do Amparo. Sebastião’s coffee was among the highest scoring lots in 2021/2022 crop season from the Black producer’s program established by Apára & BD Imports. Sebastião and his son, Lucas, work together in harvesting and processing the coffee each season. We're so excited to be able to continue to support Black producers in Brazil and the Peixoto family as they continue to produce beautiful coffees.
More about the farm and the family:
The Peixoto family has been in the coffee industry, mostly as sharecroppers, for generations. They are among the very few Black Brazilians who own land in the Campo das Vertentes region in the south of Minas Gerais. By banding together, the Peixoto family (who are well-known and admired in their community for their strong bond) were able to purchase 44 hectares of land and plant 27,000 coffee trees. Now, that land includes a drying patio, farmhouse, and storage facility, and over 74,000 coffee trees grow on the property. Neide Peixoto is leading the charge on quality improvements, and they’ve competed in and won several local quality contests. Their farming practices and Sítio Santo Antônio’s altitude, climate, and soil have contributed to the big sweetness and full body of this coffee. We hope you love this coffee as much as we do: the rich, vibrant history behind it and the bright future ahead.
